UMCOR Mission Trip
March 22-27, 2020
UMCOR Sager Brown, Baldwin LA
Led by Pastors Mike and Cathy Weigand
We’ll be working with UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, helping to prepare for and respond to disasters worldwide. The Depot collects millions of items and ships them out weekly. We will also have opportunities to do home repair, work in community agencies, or help out on campus. The campus is a beautiful setting, on a bayou. The weather will be much nicer than back home (usually 60-75 degrees).
Housing is in dorms and apartments with air conditioning, real bathrooms with showers, and real beds. Meals are cooked for us and include lots of tasty and healthy choices. We will work 5-6 hours a day, and there is work to fit everyone’s abilities and stamina. We’ve taken people in their 90’s and small children, and everyone can help! In our free time, we’ll have some really cool options to see Cajun country! It may be possible for youth to travel without their parents, ask to see if we can arrange that for you.
Cost: The first payment of $100 per person is due Oct. 15 (goes up to $150 after that). The second payment of $300 per person is due Dec. 15th.
These payments include your lodging and meals at the center, materials, fees, and a donation to the center. This does not include your sightseeing tour, one meal out, or your transportation. We can arrange carpooling for those who wish to drive. Flights can typically be arranged for $200-300 per person, plus transportation to the center. We can work on a fundraiser to help with the costs if people wish to do that.
Space is limited, first come first served. We typically make reservations and pay a deposit for this trip well over a year in advance, and usually sell out all spots and squeeze a few more in besides.
